Business Transformation Case Study
I have been working at KFC over the past 2 years but involved with the company for 10 years, in both a consulting and contractual capacity. My current role is in business optimization, where I drive lean initiatives and coordinate improvements on the company’s quality of service and operating costs.
“When the DTiQ system was completely installed, [our shrink] improved by 50% for the first store.”
In an effort to improve our security systems and reduce sales costs, we decided to install surveillance cameras to monitor the stores remotely. Our food costs were also increasing and immediate action needed to be taken. We realized we were not utilizing the cameras a great deal and wanted to get more out of the system overall. DTiQ offered a proactive solution to help with monitoring our stores. We were pleased to work with a company that specializes in the restaurant space with a true understanding of our business. DTiQ’s capability to review store operations and produce meaningful SmartAudit™ reports to share with my management team was the biggest selling point for us.
The DTiQ Experience
The service has been A-Class from the beginning. Our account representative made sure we were well taken care of! The support team was extremely efficient and I was surprised by how quickly they responded to my emails and requests. I submit a support ticket within the online portal and in no time receive a phone call from someone on the technical support team with an update.
With the DTiQ system in place, our food costs immediately improved. I believe that the presence of cameras in the restaurant alone helped lessen our product shortages. When the DTiQ system was completely installed, these figures improved by 50% for the first store. You have to protect the team members from themselves and knowing that they were constantly monitored improved productivity and customer service.
Utilizing the DTiQ System
I find the SmartAudit™ reports to be the icing on the cake. Our very first report shed light on an employee productivity problem and also helped us catch a team member who was giving away free product. I sign into the MyDTT™ portal every day. It has become part of my daily routine. I mainly look at the real-time exception reporting where I can see if my team members are making any mistakes ringing up transactions. The point of sale interface, where the transaction details appear on the screen, also comes in handy here. For instance, I am notified whenever an employee meal is offered. I can then pull up the video to verify
Overall, when you are not at the store, habits are not what you hope them to be. DTiQ puts things into focus and allows you to identify habits and change them to better your operation.
KFC Corporation, based in Louisville, Kentucky, is one of the few brands in America that can boast a rich, decades-long history of success and innovation. It all started with one cook (Colonel Harland Sanders) who created a soon-to-be world famous recipe more than 70 years ago, a list of secret herbs and spices scratched out on the back of the door to his kitchen.
